Lotus pregnancy care

What makes Guiomar’s lotus pregnancy and labor care unique?

The reason IMG_8803why I chose lotus flower as the title for my pregnancy care is because each phase of a woman’s cycle from conception to birth is filled with layers that opens individually until fully bloomed, just like a lotus flower. Every month more layers are shed from a woman’s body as she release another egg in a vulnerable, delicate, beautiful, magical and yet strong way. Been a woman is an art itself, a magical gift, a God’s gift,  that has special and unique power.

What makes it unique is  because I help women explore their gifts, their power, throughout their breath, their subconscious mind and understand their blood, so their experience becomes natural and beautiful just like a lotus flower.

Lotus breath for active labor- Learn how to breath and push at the same time using the lotus flower movement that Guiomar created to assist you during the most special moment of your delivery. You will learn how to be in control during your pushing stage.

Conscious breathing for the second stage- Learn how to focus on the babies movement inside your belly and use special breathing technique to help you to cope with back discomforts and low energy

Movement and breath work for labor– Learn simple Qi Gong movements that you can do while standing or sitting during contractions. Learn how to direct your energy downward while bringing your Qi energy to your lungs. Laughter during active labour is one of the most effective tool a woman can have.

Meridian stretching for cervical ripening– The blooming of the lotus flower. Specific stretching techniques to open your pelvis and get rid of inguinal area tension allowing the baby’s head to engage and your cervix to dilate. Guiomar will stretch your pregnant body following the pathway of Qi energy specifically the stomach, liver and bladder meridians.

First time pregnant? What to expect

As body continues to change internally and externally, it can be overwhelming to many expectant mothers. When experiencing discomfort such as lower back pain,  shoulder tension, digestive problems or headaches, it is important to remember that it is all part of the preparation for welcoming the baby. These imbalances and discomforts  can be very stressful, especially the fear of not knowing what to expect in the months to come. The main focus is to combine appropriate shiatsu pressure and gentle strokes with breathing techniques, to promote a relaxing experience for the expectant mother.

Acupuncture and shiatsu acupressure are the main modality of treatment used during pregnancy. It is an effective and drug-free way to reduce many pregnancy-related discomforts. It is often good to hear that you don’t necessarily have to endure these discomforts, even if they are considered normal.

Acupuncture is effective for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester. It helps women to overcome mental and emotional stress during labor and birth. It assists women in preparing for labor and postpartum care.

The first trimester of pregnancy can bring very positive emotional, mental, and physical experiences to women. Along with the releasing of endorphins, a chemical that makes the body  ‘feel good’, comes the adjusting of the body to the growing belly.  Towards the second and third trimester, joints become more loose  and flexible, internal organs shift position inside the abdomen to give room to the growing uterus. Moms to be are now ready to use all the skills they have to work with their babies during birth.

What conditions can acupuncture and shiatsu treat during pregnancy

1st trimester – It can help to relieve symptoms nausea and vomiting,  anxiety and fear, fatigue, migraines, bleeding and UTI prevention,

2nd trimester – neck and back pain, leg cramps and numbness, mental stress,  insomnia and hypertension.

3rd trimester – chest pain, S.O.B, heartburn, constipation, hemorrhoids, low back pain and sciatica, carpal tunnel, insomnia, edema, breech (start 34 wks)

labor and birth,  acupuncture helps to induce labor, cervical ripening and reduce symptoms of anxiety.

postpartum – recovery, lactation, hemorrhoids, depression, persistent bleeding

I am an acupuncturist registered with the CTCMPAO, classically trained in Brazil as an obstetric nurse, a shiatsu therapist and energy healer. After my two successful home births I felt empowered to help women to deliver their babies naturally. I also offer pregnancy massage and doula services.
