Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy based on sustained application of pressure primary with thumbs to selected acupressure points in the body.

This integrative technique engages the body into deep relaxation, while improving joint flexibility and correction of posture.

It combines floor and table work.

What are meridians

Meridians are channels of living magnetic energy in the body

Associated with the function of the internal organs.

It is a system of treatment that regulates abnormalities in the body based on assessment of the meridians.

The energy that maintain our vital life force flows through 12 pathway or meridians.

How the flow of ki or chi moves?

Qi energy moves in different directions in order to perform its functions. It ascends and descends through 12 mer lines.

The direction of the flow of Qi depends on the internal organs function. If there is an imbalance on the flow of Qi it needs to be viewed as dysfunctions of the internal organs.

i.e. Liver Qi stagnation on the throat where liv mer flows gives rises to the feeling of lump in the throat. When there is abnormal functioning of internal organs or abnormal external stimulation, the energy stagnates in the meridians producing sickness

PRINCIPLES OF ACUPRESSURE

There are several ways in which you can do acupressure, and you'll need to experiment to discover what feels best.

Firm pressure using fingers, palms, or knuckles means applying pressure steadily for one to several minutes.

Another technique is to knead the muscles with your fingers or heels of your hands, the motion is similar to kneading dough.

Rubbing an acupressure point will increase circulation, and quick tapping with your fingertips or fists stimulates the muscles.

This integrative technique includes:

  • Shiatsu acupressure treatment on head, face, neck, shoulders and back;
  • Thai yoga stretching;
  • Zen meridian stretching for alignment and correction of spine.

Shiatsu when combined with meridian stretching techniques will increase body awareness, calm and relax the mind and correct postural problems.

If you are experiencing repetitive strains to your tendons, try a combination of Shiatsu and meridian stretching treatment.

If you often find that you are on your feet all day or have difficulty sleeping, I would recommend the foot shiatsu massage.
